Installation Guide
The Edelbrock 1579 carburetor is easy to install, and should take no more than an hour or two. Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary tools and parts. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver, a 1/4” socket wrench and extension, a 7/16” wrench, a 7/32” wrench, an adjustable wrench, and a flat head screwdriver. You should also have a vacuum gauge, a fuel filter, and a fuel line.

Step 1: Disconnect the battery.

Step 2: Remove the old carburetor. Start by disconnecting the fuel line, the fuel filter, and the vacuum line. Remove the linkage and the fuel lines. Loosen the carburetor mounting bolts and gently lift the carburetor off the intake manifold.

Step 3: Install the new carburetor. Start by mounting the carburetor onto the intake manifold. Secure the carburetor with the mounting bolts and tighten with a 1/4” socket wrench and extension.

Step 4: Connect the fuel and vacuum lines. Connect the fuel line to the carburetor’s inlet fitting. Connect the fuel filter to the fuel line and connect the vacuum line to the carburetor’s vacuum port.

Step 5: Reconnect the battery and check for leaks.

Step 6: Install the linkage. Start by connecting the throttle linkage to the carburetor. Make sure the linkage is properly adjusted and secure the linkage with the mounting screws.

Step 7: Adjust the idle speed. Start the engine and adjust the idle speed screw until the engine runs smoothly.

Step 8: Adjust the fuel mixture. Connect a vacuum gauge to the carburetor’s vacuum port and adjust the fuel mixture screws until the highest vacuum reading is obtained.

Step 9: Test the carburetor. Take the vehicle for a test drive and make sure the carburetor is working properly.
